Investing in the future leaders of our communities, Co-op Kids Club is a monthly, in-person gathering for students in grades 1–6 that combines hands-on activities with fun, engaging lessons about energy and our cooperative.

Our Homes Are Powered
Kids are naturally curious about how things work—especially when it comes to the lights, devices, and technology they use every day. That curiosity is exactly what the Co-op Kids Club at Southeastern Indiana REMC is designed to encourage.

Launched earlier this year, the Co-op Kids Club gives students in grades 1–6 the opportunity to explore how electricity and technology power our daily lives. Through hands-on activities and interactive learning, kids discover how Southeastern Indiana REMC delivers the essential services that keep our communities connected.

At the March meeting, students learned about what makes an electric cooperative unique and how members play a role in guiding the co-op’s future. The next meeting will build on that foundation by exploring how electricity travels from power plants through power lines and transformers before reaching homes and businesses.
​
Future meetings will introduce kids to other important topics as well—including electrical safety, energy efficiency, lineworker careers, and even how fiber internet uses light to deliver high-speed connections.
​
Programs like Co-op Kids Club help young learners better understand the infrastructure that powers their homes while encouraging curiosity about science, technology, and energy.

how electricity travels?
The Human Power Grid

Gather 3–5 family members.Stand in a line holding hands.​

The first person represents the power plant that generates electricity.

The people in the middle represent power lines and transformers.

The last person represents a home receiving electricity.
Explain that electricity must travel along a complete path called a circuit to reach homes. When someone lets go of hands, the path is broken—just like electricity cannot flow when a circuit is incomplete.
Join the Co-op Kids Club
Students in grades 1–6 are invited to attend the Co-op Kids Club, a free monthly program hosted by Southeastern Indiana REMC.
